The correct way to credit original author ( Dont be like me, last night)

2 days ago, i upload all my contents which my intention to test my new WP (Wordpress) template which i modified from RDC template. Mixed up with all those contents were some writings from bloggers which i wrongly credited them. As a newcomer, i thought if i just put the source link at the end of the sentence will do, but my foolish thinking gave me back shameful comments to myslef. I dont believe it, last night one day after i testing the site, i received a lot of comments from all the pro-bloggers about my wrongdoings. At the first place, i thought that maybe there were all normal comments but all those comments really knocked my head. Now i can see and believe the true power of internet. Seeing is believing. One silly mistake can put your name in the hall of shame, and i believe my name is on the top of the list. But i never accept all those yelling and scolding as a factor to not to learn from all the best out there. Mistakes happen for you to learn and the best lesson is learn from your mistake. Before i continue to give you guide how to credit original author (you guys still can give your opinion what is the best way to credit author), you may read all the comments from all the pro bloggers about my silly fool mistake. You may think why i do this? I dont want to increase the shame that i already had, but i think there must be a lot of newcomers out there that can read this post as their guide to credit original author so they wont be like me. To all newbies, dont try to be like me. Write in proper way, if you dont know, ask the pro’s and learn..never stop to learn…Read on the useful comments..

Please do not quote my entire article on this site and you have not quoted your source.

I?ve got nothing against using free articles (I don?t think its the smartest way to build a blog) - but this blog isn?t even crediting them. Free articles are able to be freely posted on your blog - but you?re obligated to include a signature with a link to the author. Do a Google search for the title of virtually every post on the blog and you?ll find it somewhere else. For example compare: What is Business Blog (no follow tag used) with What is a business blog? They couldn?t even get the title right. Why am I posting this? Well I?m getting sick of this type of blogging. In addition to that they don?t have any way of contacting them - they moderate their comments so one can?t protest that way and they?ve stolen a friend of mine?s content and are bringing the ?ProBlogging? segment of the wider blogging community into disrepute with this approach (and plus I haven?t had a rant for a little while).

Some original content maybe?

Dude, what the hell are you doing creating a blog from other peoples’ articles and NOT including resource box information? I understand what you’re doing but you MUST give credit (and backlinks) to those who originally wrote the content.
If it’s an oversight, fine, but if you’re doing it on purpose you suck.
Vic

This last two comments are from which i consider from probloggers and established resource. So newbies, until here you can see what can happen to you if you underestimate the importance of blog writing ethics. Its important!!!! REMEMBER that!! Make what happen to me as your lesson to know how to appreciate and credit other people’s writings.

4. From Blogherald (i really dont believe my name appear on BlogHerald)

Darren Rowse over at Problogger has done something he often holds back from doing, at that’s something that perhaps sometimes I do to often: he’s gone on a rant with Introducing a Shoddy Blogger and singled out Mr Jumat’s blog: Tips for Bloggers (rel=nofollow used) as stealing content.

Wow…what a shameful phenomenon to myself. To all newbies, a simple ignorance can make you be blamed by all the pro’s. So dont ever try to do your site testing with other people’s contents. If you do, learn how to credit people. So how to do it?

Pertaining from the first comment from Rachel, here is the first lesson i learned. Dont copy all. If you paste majority of the contents, dont just put the main URL of the site you copied from. This is very wrong. The best thing you can do is contact the original author and ask how can you put his or her contents on your site. If the author allows you to do that, please credit the author with the full link to that particular article that you copied from. I write some method to credit the author, i invite any of you who may think you have another proper guide to credit aotuhor. Lets start.

Blog is bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla.. - Source from ABC (with ABC linked to the particular post of the author)

Or

Blog is bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..(link that first word to the original post of the author)

Or

Blog is…bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..bla..
This article is taken from John form his article at www.sampleofsource.com.
John is a writerof…bla…bla….simple about the author here.

Of all the above, of course the best way is to write your own original content. But maybe you like to quote some of the words of the author. So dont forget to credit them. Dont make shame of yourself. If you use some of the original author words, modified it a bit or you take idea from it you may write like this:

According to John, Blog is…bla…bla..bla…bla..bla…bla..bla…bla..bla…bla..bla…bla..bla…bla..bla…bla..bla…bla..bla…bla…

In my next post, i will give the details how to create your original contents+outside contents with proper crediting method. Please feel free to give me comments about this post, and if you feel there is better guide in crediting author please contact me via email and i will modify this post and include your comment.

Once again newbies, learn from my mistake and never bored to ask the pro’s to guide you. Lastly, thanks to all who give your comments regarding my wrongdoings, those were very precious to me.

No hard feelings :) Thanks for making things right and all the best with your blog.

Thanks Rachel..

dude. next time be careful lar. dun let us malaysians get banned

Colbert..thanks for the support…

right on, admire how you handle the affair!
beside being a lesson of how to make something wrong (the quote and attribution issue), you also shows the correct way in hadling the “disaster”.

There is no such thing as a PROBLOGGER!

There is no such thing as a Blogger wannabe.

You have a blog, you are a BLOGGER

You don’t see people calling themselves prowriters or projournalists.

Seeing how you’ve handled the copyright issue already, next time just tell ppl to STFU. Bloggers are starting to become egoistical monkeys.

Good luck with your blog. Just try not to advertise Google Adsense too much,.. Advertisements suck.

Thank you for posting this. I am very new in the blogging scene too, this post surely reminds me to properly quote my sources - all the time.

You’re welcome Jacky…together we learn…
